The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful
Sendoff for Hayes, surgery for Christina and a birthday for Swayze
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

An eclectic mix of Hollywood scientologists, Memphis musicians and thousands of other folks who aren't part of either group came out to pay their respects to legendary soul man Isaac Hayes yesterday in Memphis, reports The New York Times.

Among those seated in the pews of Hope Presbyterian Church were fellow Scientologists Kelly Preston and Ann Archer; funkmeister Bootsy Collins; Chick Corea, Kurt Whalum, repping jazz; Doug E. Fresh, reppin' rap; the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton; and Craig Brewer, director of the film "Hustle and Flow," in which Mr. Hayes played a bartender.

Christina Applegate tells "Good Morning America" that she's cancer-free following a double mastectomy.

Interviewed by Robin Roberts, who has also undergone treatment for breast cancer, the actress said she saw her mother battle the disease and then have it reoccur.

That's why she decided to have both breasts removed even though cancer was detected only in one.

"I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one," Christina said.

You know we wish you all the best, girl.

Now, all you women who have put it off, go get your mammograms, pronto!

Since we're doing celebrity health checks today, we'll let you know that Patrick Swayze, who's being treated for pancreatic cancer, celebrated his 56th birthday on the set of his new TV show, "The Beast."

The actor, who's looking a lot healthier, was feted by the cast and crew and had a birthday lunch in his trailer with his wife, Lisa Niemi.

It's not the fastest honeymoon phase in history, but it's still pretty darn fast for it to be over.

"SNL" alumnus Chris Kattan and his blushing bride of two months, Sunshine Tutt, are separated, reports Life&Style Weekly.

An insider is quoted as saying, "They've got issues. They're trying to work it out."

No joke.

It's not like they rushed into the thing -- they reportedly had been dating since 2005.

Well, we hope they can get on the good foot again.

Speaking of rocky marriages, this one has hit a Titanic-size iceberg.

You know we had previously reported that actress LisaRaye, last seen in the Will and Jada Smith-produced sitcom "All of Us," and her hubby, Michael Misick, premier of Turks and Caicos, were back together again.

Apparently that reported reunion has not worked out.

Now come reports that the two were involved in some kind of altercation, and Essence.com has exclusive photos of the actress's injuries.

LisaRaye was reportedly bitten by somebody when she tried to enter the home she and Michael had shared.

This sounds like a big ol' mess.

Might as well make this a messed-up marriage trifecta and let you know that actor/New Kids on the Blocker Donnie Wahlberg and his wife, Kim Fey, have both filed for divorce.

According to TMZ, Kim's petition was filed a few hours before Donnie's.

Anyway, she wants sole physical and legal custody of their children, 15 and 7. She's also seeking child support, spousal support and attorneys' fees, according to People.

We don't know what he wants.

The couple haven't been together for a while, so we guess this is just the next step in making it a clean break.

We don't know how clean this break was, but it sure was profitable.

Phil Collins set the UK record for divorce settlements with a $46.68 million payout to his third ex-wife, Orianne Cevey.

That beats the Paul McCartney/Heather Mills settlement by $1 million.

All we can say is su sussudio!

We shouted loud, but we shouted wrong.

The school founded by Dr. James and Pam Johnson is the Afro-American Music Institute.

The rest of it was right. Their boys choir is fabulous, and so is our nephew.
