Crash closes Route 66 in Westmoreland

Three people were were flown and another was driven to area hospitals this afternoon after a three-vehicle accident in Washington Township, Westmoreland County, according to police.

The crash shut down Route 66 at Route 356 in both directions. The driver of a Pontiac Grand Am was heading south on Route 356 and attempted to turn left onto Route 66 in front of a northbound Ford Ranger when the two vehicles collided.

It wasn't immediately clear how the third vehicle was involved.

No other information, including about the victims and their conditions, has been released.
