Where to go ... Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad
Sunday, August 17, 2008

What to do: As oil prices continue to skyrocket, take a journey to where it all began. The petroleum industry started with the drilling of the Drake Well near Titusville, Pa. (and perhaps an unnamed well drilled at the same time near Petroleum, West Virginia). The restored Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad travels 13 1/2 miles of track through Oil Creek State Park, the location of Drake's well. The tracks remain in commercial use connecting Titusville's industrial quarter to the nationwide rail network. It hauls over 1,000 carloads of freight each year
