Widespread dense fog slows morning commute
Storms yesterday cross region; driver's license center shut

Dense fog is greeting commuters in many areas of Western Pennsylvania this morning, coming on the heels of scattered strong storms yesterday.

Visibility is limited in most suburban locations and drivers should exercise caution. At 6 a.m., visibility was about a quarter-mile in Indiana, West Mifflin and Butler. At ittsburgh International Airport, visibility was at about three miles.

Yesterday's storms caused some damage as they moved through the region, including to the PennDOT Driver License Center in Greensburg. The center, at 770 E. Pittsburgh St., had been expected to be closed today because of the damage. However, repairs were completed sooner than expected, and the center reopened this morning for business.

Other areas also suffered damage from the storms. Lightning struck a house on Silo Court in North Fayette and some street flooding on Millers Run Road in South Fayette, meteorologist Terry Parrish said.

Pittsburgh International Airport reported one inch of rain, but Mr. Parrish said the storms were patchy so different areas received different amounts.

Today's weather may be similar, with a 20 percent chance of rain in the morning, increasing to 50 percent in the afternoon, Mr. Parrish said.
